Multi-product handling: Servus robots simplify clean room logistics

As part of a new building and comprehensive modernization at Röchling in Neuhaus, the intralogistics were redesigned. Previously, two different conventional conveyor technologies were used in production and packaging—with high costs, double maintenance, more manual intervention, and lower process reliability. The goal was to have only one system. Servus was chosen to develop a solution.

The central requirement in the specifications was to reduce non-value-adding human tasks such as manual transport in order to use labor more efficiently. The new system is designed to pick up products, place them in a storage buffer, and deliver them to the stations with pinpoint timing. In addition, the internal logistics for clean room goods, in particular clean packs and aluminum trays, were to be fully automated and seamlessly integrated into the clean room airlocks to avoid contamination risks.

The challenge was to transport two different products—clean packs and aluminum trays—within a single system. To this end, the transport robots (ARCs) were equipped with two different load handling devices: ARCs with belt conveyors for the clean packs, which are transported from the production machines to the packaging area, and Smartloader ARCs for aluminum trays, which are temporarily stored in the automated small parts warehouse and delivered to the machines on demand. The intralogistics are seamlessly integrated into the clean room. This ensures maximum hygiene and efficient automation of the supply process.
